Los Cabos Spotlight: Claudia Perez, General Manager of Marqui Los Cabos

The award-winning Marqui Los Cabos All-Inclusive Resort & Spa is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. The beachfront resort overlooks the Sea of Cortez and has been a staple for “adults only,” in Los Cabos, for the past 2o years.

Claudia Perez was appointed general manager in January 2022.

Here, she tells us about her exciting journey these past two years.

Marqui Los Cabos

1. What was the hotel like when you first started, and what changes did you implement?

Throughout these two years, I found a hotel with a more conservative approach, leading to a significant transformation in the overall strategy. We have introduced systems in various areas, including sales, revenue, and operations. This implementation has not only allowed us to measure and analyze with precision but has also enabled the creation of a differentiated approach to decision-making, much more based on analysis. We also have a more modern approach to human resources, gradually adapting from traditional to contemporary, aligning with a nuanced understanding of generations and a commitment to continuous growth and improvement.

2. What is a typical day for you like at work?

I start my day with exercise and a good cup of coffee…

Upon arriving at the hotel, I take an initial stroll through the pool area, where our guests will spend most of their time. Afterward, I take a quick look at breakfast area and the back area; this is the perfect moment to observe, listen, and greet guests and team members.

During the afternoon, I attend to follow-up meetings for various projects, whether ongoing or just starting. That is an essential part of my day. I enjoy the collaborative process and decision-making that these meetings provide. Additionally, I take pleasure in having meals in various places, including our cafeteria. I often go alone, allowing me to engage in conversations with guests and colleagues.

3. What do you love most about your job?

I love when I hear: “…my expectations were exceeded!” I enjoy the daily interaction with people, facing challenges, and achieving results. I savor the diversity of situations that come with working in a hotel.

4. What is it like being a female general manager?

I believe being a female general manager in this industry can bring a fresh perspective, diversity of thought, and unique problem-solving skills to the role.

Female general managers often serve as role models, inspiring other women to pursue leadership positions and breaking down gender barriers in the process.

5. What is your favorite feature of Marqui Los Cabos?

Additionally to being an “adults-only” resort, our commitment to personalized service for each guest and creating memorable and unique experiences.

6. Do you have exciting plans for the future of the hotel?

We have plans for renovations in our public spaces and rooms, aiming to stay competitive and maintain our leadership position in the market.

Undoubtedly, Marquis will continue to be a prominent presence in Los Cabos for many years to come.
