Los Cabos Spotlight: InCabo Travel

Alejandro Vidal, a native of Mexico City, first visited Los Cabos in 1994. At that time, he was unsure if it was the place he wanted to permanently live or start a business. But one afternoon, while walking along Medano Beach, a whale, and her calf, appeared next to him and followed him along the beach.

Vidal says it was his first close encounter with nature. He felt such a deep connection at that moment that he realized Los Cabos would be his new home.

Today, he is the founding partner and managing director of InCabo Travel — a luxury destination company specializing in curating unforgettable adventures — which he started in 1998.

This is what he has to say about his company:

What do you love most about your work?

I’ve been deeply involved in all aspects of the business – from creating the first tours to being the lead guide over 25 years ago to this day. I enjoy guiding, exploring with friends and clients, forging new partnerships, and having a team of experts who continuously enrich our understanding of our destination. While I like being in the office, I love venturing out to incredible places like Sierra de la Laguna, Cabo Pulmo Marine Park, Espiritu Santo Island, sailing around the arch, and surfing on less-visited beaches with friends.

Did you, yourself, always love to travel?

Yes, I’ve always been passionate about travel – especially adventure travel. Since I was young, I loved backpacking with friends in search of extreme adventures. Traveling provides experiences and personal growth, and that’s how I ended up in Los Cabos – the ideal place I didn’t know I was looking for at that time.

From the group excursions to outreach events, which element is your personal favorite of InCabo Travel, and why?

InCabo has evolved over the years, with each division offering something special. Our Leisure division focuses on private tours around unique and spectacular places in Baja Sur, creating beautiful experiences that motivate our team, and me, personally.

Our Incentive Groups division is a constant challenge – creating tailored events for clients, and making Los Cabos the best destination, and experience, compared to any other program worldwide. It’s fulfilling when we exceed client objectives, and participants want to return to Los Cabos for more.

The most rewarding part is conducting outreach events with the local community, and collaborating with private companies to support those in need. Since our company’s inception, we’ve worked with local communities requiring assistance and more specifically with children with special needs and low income, single moms, and far away communities.

Balandra Beach

Which excursion that In Cabo Travel offers would you say is the most popular among customers?

We have several popular activities, such as cruising in the Sea of Cortez and exploring marine life in Los Cabos. La Paz is popular for swimming with whale sharks and hundreds of sea lions, and Espiritu Santo Island – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – to stay overnight.

Our guides, including a surfing champion, oceanographers, biologists, and native guides, enhance the overall experience.

How would you say the travel industry has changed over the years you have been in business?

The travel industry has changed significantly. The trend now is to travel to unique places, respecting the environment, and seeking real experiences with local communities. Luxury is now about being completely disconnected and enjoying the place and people you travel with, away from the distractions of the internet and television.

What makes Los Cabos the perfect destination for your business?

Los Cabos offers countless things to do with unparalleled infrastructure, incredible connectivity, hotels of all categories, renowned chefs, and high-level service. Our resources, including the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean, protected areas, endemic species, and unforgettable landscapes, make Los Cabos unique.

Do you have any plans for the future for InCabo Travel?

We’re excited to start multi-day trips to spectacular places in Baja, including trips to Magdalena Bay for a close encounter with the whales, trips to Loreto in search of the blue whale, and trips to Valle de Guadalupe for a culinary experience.

We love to continue evolving, and contributing to the environment, and aiming for a better world.
